An IP-PBX is a PBX equipment, or telephone switchboard, that is designed to provide video and/or voice communication services over IP data networks. That is, using IP Telephony technology, telephone service can be provided for example over a company’s IP virtual private network. When the IP network used is the Internet, we also talk about “Internet Telephony”, which is a particular case of Voice over IP (VoIP) services. There are significant differences in operating guarantees and voice quality between the two cases.
Today, the vast majority of telephone switchboards that are installed are IP-PBX.
